This page is a work in progress. The story below is a draft until it is written in the developer's own words.

Why I built DarkRoom

DarkRoom exists because your photos should belong to you, not to a subscription. Every photo app I tried wanted the same deal: upload your life to its servers, then pay every month to keep looking at it. Stop paying, and your own memories get locked behind a paywall. That never sat right with me.

So I built a photo library that runs entirely on your device. Your timeline, your map, the faces of people you love, and search that understands plain words. All of it happens in your browser, on your own hardware. Nothing is uploaded, nothing is tracked, and there is no account to create, because there is nobody on the other end to hold your data.

It is free, and it will stay free. No tiers, no trials, no premium memories. Just your photos, on your device, nothing ever leaving it. That is the whole idea.

DarkRoom: the darkroom, reimagined as software. Your photos, developed privately on your own device.
