Library
Import photos
Your iPhone does not let any web page watch your photo library for new photos, so DarkRoom cannot import automatically. When you take new photos, come back here and import them again. Photos you already imported are recognized and skipped.
Tip: keep this page open on Wi-Fi for large imports. Downloads from iCloud show live progress per photo.
Storage
Measuring
This space holds your thumbnails, search data, and any photos you imported. If it fills up, new imports will stop with an error. Clearing deletes the library from this browser only. Your original photo files elsewhere are never touched.
Your photos, truly yours.
Connect a folder and browse your library: timeline, search, duplicates. Everything is processed on this device. Nothing is uploaded, now or ever.
Desktop Chromium or Edge required. Your browser will ask for read permission for the folder you pick.
Your collections
Group photos into albums, or let a smart album fill itself: screenshots, a year, a person.
Locked folder
PIN-protected. Locked photos are hidden from the timeline, search, faces, map, and albums until you unlock for the session. This keeps honest people out; it is not encryption.
Year in photos
A quiet recap of each year: totals, busiest months, places, top cameras, and standout shots. All made on this device.

Search
Smart search
Describe a photo in plain words. The search runs on this device, never on a server.
Smart search needs a one-time download of the image model (157 MB). It is stored permanently on this device and is never re-downloaded silently.
Downloading the image model. You can pause and resume anytime; finished parts are kept.
Text search
Find words inside screenshots, receipts, and signs. The text reader runs on this device, never on a server.
Text search needs a one-time download of the on-device text reader (about 15 MB). It is stored in this browser and is never re-downloaded silently.
Loading the text reader. You can cancel anytime.
Browse by tag
Tags are guessed on this device from each photo. Tap a tag to see its photos.
Search by color
Tap a color to find photos dominated by it. Color signatures are computed on this device when photos are imported.
Duplicates
Duplicate finder
Groups photos that are pixel-identical, or differ by only a few pixels. Nothing is deleted automatically. Review each group yourself.
Press Find duplicates to compare every photo in your library. Nothing is deleted: you review each group yourself.
Faces
Find faces in your photos and group them into people you can name. The first scan downloads the needed models once, then everything runs on this device.

Checking…
This is everything DarkRoom keeps in this browser: your iPhone import copies, thumbnails, the smart-search index, and face data. Your system settings may show a different number.
Connected folders
On iPhone there are no folders to connect. Apple does not let websites watch your photo library, so you import copies with the photo picker instead. Those copies live in this browser's storage until you export or delete them.
Indexing
Smart search and face detection run on your device. Pause either one and resume later; finished work is kept.
The first run fetches the on-device AI models once (about 160 MB, served from this site). After that, indexing works fully offline.
Export
Download your originals as one ZIP file. Photos are copied straight from your folders or your iPhone imports, unchanged, except for any options you choose below. Nothing is uploaded anywhere.
Tools
Utilities for your library. Nothing here runs on its own: every action is started by you and can be cancelled.
Backups and what lives where
The catalog (your timeline, the search index, faces, and people) is derived data. It can always be rebuilt from your originals by indexing again.
Desktop originals stay yours. DarkRoom only reads your folders; clearing the library never touches your files.
iPhone imports are copies kept in this browser's storage. Export them with the ZIP export above before you clear anything, or they are gone.
Clearing this site's browser data removes the whole library, including iPhone copies.
Fix photo dates
Batch-change when photos were taken. Useful when a camera clock was wrong by hours or days. Changes apply to the timeline, search, and memories, and can be undone right after.
