Needed — the sequence starts from your Lagna.
The two traditions differ only on the exalted/debilitated year adjustment.
How Chara Dasha is read
While Vimshottari runs planet periods from your Moon, Chara Dasha runs sign periods from your Lagna — the Jaimini school's answer to timing. Each sign's chapter lasts 1–12 years depending on where its lord sits in your chart, so no two people share the same timeline. Read the mahadasha sign's house and lord for the chapter's theme, and the antardasha sign for its current verse.
